Day release prisoner Arnold Pickering charged with absconding

A second man has been charged with being unlawfully at large after day release from a Merseyside prison.

Arnold Pickering, 44, from Chadderton, Oldham, was arrested at an address in the town at about 11:45 BST on Monday.

On Sunday, 51-year-old Thomas Moffett, from Blackburn, Lancashire, was detained after going missing from HMP Kennet in Maghull.

They were remanded in custody at South Sefton Magistrates' Court to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 3 June.

They have been charged with failing to return to prison after being allowed out on day release on Saturday.
