A rapist killed himself in his cell the day before he was due to be sentenced, an inquest found.

Paul Gigg, from Highwoods, Colchester, Essex, was found by officers at Norwich Prison on 27 January last year.

The cause of death was hanging, assistant coroner David Osborne recorded.

Gigg, 30, had pleaded guilty at a trial in December to two counts of rape in October 2012 during an event at the Vauxhall Holiday Park, Great Yarmouth.

The prison ombudsman will now carry out an investigation.
