A major link between Gatwick Airport and London has closed until 2 January.

The Gatwick Express service, which links the West Sussex airport with London Victoria, closed to allow work to be carried out.

Maintenance on the line between Redhill in Surrey and Purley in south London will be carried out during the week-long closure.

Southern, First Capital Connect and First Great Western services to the airport are being disrupted.

Southern said from 27 December until 1 January, trains between Purley and Redhill would not run.

Customers are advised to use Southern trains between East Croydon and East Grinstead and the buses between East Grinstead and Gatwick Airport.

First Capital Connect passengers are advised to use Southern services between Sutton and Gatwick Airport, and on services between London Bridge and Coulsden Town, with a connecting bus service to the airport and Three Bridges.

Buses replace First Great Western train services between Reigate and Gatwick Airport between 27 and 29 December.
