A £52m plan to regenerate Warrington town centre has been announced.

Warrington Borough Council is proposing to redevelop Bridge Street with a shopping, restaurant and leisure area and a new market hall.

The development, which also includes a cinema and a new civic centre, would be completed in phases by 2018.

Around 400 jobs would be created if the scheme is approved and completed, the council said. Construction would start next year if approved.

Under the proposals, the current market would be demolished and moved to a temporary site in Time Square.

The new market hall would be built around the Grade II listed brick façade in Bridge Street.

The plans will go out to public consultation and are subject to approval by the council's planning committee.
