Rotherham men charged over Burton Albion match disorder

Six men have been charged over disorder at a football match between Burton Albion and Rotherham.

Staffordshire Police said it happened before, during and after the League Two game at the Pirelli Stadium in Burton upon Trent on Saturday, 9 February.

A smoke bomb and flare were set off and plastic bottles and coins thrown at officials and police officers.

The men, aged between 18 and 23, are due to appear before magistrates at Burton upon Trent on Thursday.

Jack Stanford from Fenton Way, Rotherham, and Liam Burrows from Woodside Walk, Rotherham, both aged 21, are charged with public orders offences at the Pirelli Stadium.

Jake Benson, 18, of Holmes Court, Rotherham, is charged with criminal damage at the Lord Burton pub, in High Street, Burton.

Sam Bates, 21, of Stratford Way, Rotherham, John Sheridan, 23, of Scrooby Street, Rotherham, and Ben Wilson, 19, of Gibbing Greaves Road, Rotherham, are all charged with affray at Riley's Snooker Hall.

They were arrested last week and officers are still investigating what happened, police said.
