A man has been charged following a 35-mile high speed police chase from West Sussex to Hampshire.

Sussex Police pursed a VW Passat, stolen from Steyning Sports Centre, along the A27 on Saturday evening.

It collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction as it was being stopped by Hampshire Police.

Matthew Hall, 25, of Beach Road, Southsea, Hampshire, is charged with various offences including dangerous driving and aggravated vehicle taking.

He was remanded in custody by Worthing magistrates to appear before Chichester Crown Court on 30 August.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: "Just after 8pm car keys for a VW Passat were stolen from Steyning Sports Centre in Horsham and the offenders fled in the car.

"The car was eventually stopped in Hampshire near Emsworth by Hampshire Police officers."
