A Kent woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a care home resident in West Sussex.

Jean Halfpenny, 89, died in May 2010 at Orchid View care home in Copthorne.

Officers said the 44-year-old woman from Tunbridge Wells had been arrested by detectives on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence.

Southern Cross, which operated Orchid View, closed the home last year. It has since reopened under a new name and new management.

Last month, a 28-year-old man was arrested at HMP Dartmoor, where he was being held on an unrelated matter. He was released back to HMP Dartmoor pending further inquiries.

Three people from Sussex and Surrey were arrested in September and October 2011.

A Crawley woman, 41, a South Godstone woman, 55, and a Burgess Hill man, 49, were bailed pending further inquiries.

Sussex Police began an investigation last year into alleged neglect at the care home, near Crawley.
