A man has been ordered to spend seven years in jail for killing his three-month-old son.

Luke Goode suffered multiple head injuries at his home in Cannock, Staffordshire, on 20 October, 2009.

He was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital but died from his injuries two days later.

His father Jonathan Goode, 29, denied murder but was found guilty of manslaughter by jurors at Birmingham Crown Court.

The 83 days Goode spent on remand will be deducted from his sentence, the court heard on Monday.

Det Ch Insp Tim Martin said: "Goode concocted a story to cover his tracks after inflicting fatal injuries on Luke.

"A thorough inquiry was carried out using evidence from medical experts to prove that Luke's death wasn't accidental.

"Any death is tragic, but to lose a life at such a young age is particularly heart-breaking. Luke was too small to defend himself and was killed by the person who was supposed to protect him."
