London MP calls for list of weapons seized in schools

Teresa Pearce, Labour MP for Erith and Thamesmead, has called for information about the number of weapons seized in schools to be made available.

Responding to a Freedom of Information request from the BBC about the number of weapons seized in state schools since 2005/06, three boroughs said they held that information.

Richmond said 59 weapons were seized in that time, three were caught in Havering, while none were reported from the single primary school in the City of London.

The remaining 30 boroughs said they did not hold the information and schools were not bound to give it to them.

Seven of the councils said 470 pupils in total were excluded over incidents involving weapons, in the last five years.
