Two men have appeared in court charged with murdering a man whose body has never been found.

Jesse Richards, from Surrey, was reported missing in July 2009 after a business trip to Worcestershire. It is believed he was abducted.

Joseph Doe, 36, of Tattersall Chase, Southminster, Essex, and David Butler, 25, of Colnbrook, Slough in Berkshire, appeared before Birmingham magistrates.

They were remanded and are due before Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday.

Mr Richards, a 41-year-old scrap metal dealer, was married with three children.
