Bogus official fears after theft from County Durham van

Police have warned that property stolen from a vehicle in County Durham could be used by bogus officials.

A holdall was taken from a Northumbrian Water van parked in Crook overnight between Monday and Tuesday.

It contained a high-visibility jacket, a sweatshirt, overalls, and possibly an ID card, all bearing the company logo.

Durham Police said the means of entry were sophisticated and the stolen contents very specific, and urged householders to be on their guard.

People have been advised not to let let anyone into their property unless satisfied as to their identity and reason for calling.
