Man arrested in Sunderland railway cable theft probe

A Wearside man has been arrested on suspicion of theft after a large amount of railway cable was discovered in a garage.

British Transport Police arrested the 40-year-old at his home in Hendon, Sunderland, after finding the copper cable on Tuesday.

He has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Officers from Network Rail and Crimestoppers were also involved in the investigation.
