A police search is under way to find a man accused of child rape who failed to attend a court appearance.

Durham Police said Peter Dunlop, of Weardale, went missing on 4 October prior to a scheduled appearance at Durham Crown Court.

The 56-year-old is accused of rape, sexual assault and gross indecency on girls under 16 dating back to 1994.

Detectives believe he may have a goatee beard. He was arrested in February and given conditional bail.

A force spokesman said Mr Dunlop had not complied with the conditions of his bail, including reporting to a police station in Newcastle and wearing an electronic tag.
