Driver killed as lorry leaves M6 motorway

A lorry driver was killed when his vehicle left the M6 motorway, police have said.

Police were called to the southbound carriageway at about 1930 GMT on Wednesday, near junction 27 at Standish, Greater Manchester.

The lorry had left the motorway and travelled down an embankment. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lancashire Police said they had started an investigation.
