Two hurt in Durham Police car collision

Two people, including a police officer, have been injured in a collision in County Durham.

The incident, on South Church Road, Bishop Auckland, involved a Nissan Qashqai and a marked police vehicle on routine patrol on Tuesday morning.

The Nissan driver was airlifted to Middlesbrough's James Cook Hospital, and the inspector driving the police car was taken to Darlington Hospital.

Both men suffered chest injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

An investigation into the cause of the crash, at about 0900 BST, is under way.
