Black Rocks climber injured after rock fall

A 32-year-old man has been injured after falling 30ft (9.1m) while climbing at Black Rocks near Wirksworth in Derbyshire.

The man, from Norwich, was climbing with three friends on Saturday when the accident happened.

A spokesman from Derby Mountain Rescue said the device that held the climber's ropes to the rocks failed and the man fell, cracking a vertebrae.

He was flown to the Royal Derby Hospital for treatment.

The rescue team put a vacuum body splint on the man and carried him across the rocky ground by stretcher to the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.

He is currently recovering in hospital.
