Peterlee swimming pool closes for £250,000 revamp

A County Durham swimming pool is to close for three months for its first major revamp in more than 30 years.

As part of a £250,000 refurbishment scheme, the main 25-metre pool and the smaller teaching pool at Peterlee Leisure Centre will be re-tiled.

There will also be maintenance work on the filters and extraction systems.

The pools close on Monday but the rest of the leisure centre, including gym, sauna and sports hall, will remain open as usual.

Steve Howell, the county council's head of sport and leisure services, said: "The swimming pool has given great service to swimmers in Peterlee since 1973 but is now beginning to show its age.

"This significant investment by the county council to re-tile the pools will result in a much improved swimming experience for customers."
