East Midlands Airport expecting record weekend

East Midlands Airport is expecting its busiest weekend of the summer with thousands of passengers jetting abroad.

Staff are expecting 86,500 people to travel through the airport between Friday 27 and Tuesday 31 August.

This is an increase of 0.8% compared to the same weekend last year, according to Barry Thompson, deputy managing director.

The most popular destinations for the Bank Holiday weekend are Palma, Malaga and Alicante.

"The predicted figures for the Bank Holiday weekend suggest that even more people are looking to travel abroad this year - this is a positive indication for the overall performance for August," said Mr Thompson.

"We recommend that passengers allow plenty of time to travel to the airport, due to Bank Holiday traffic and arrive at least two hours prior to departure," he added.
