Rail repairs hit train services across the Midlands

Train passengers face disruption over the Bank Holiday weekend because of engineering works.

Virgin Trains will be running reduced services on Saturday from Crewe to London Euston, and on Sunday no trains will call at Stafford.

On Bank Holiday Monday the route between Birmingham New Street and Stafford via Wolverhampton will be closed.

There will also be a reduced service between Rugby and Euston.

Improvement work

A Virgin Trains spokesman said work was carried out over Bank Holiday weekends because there was no effect on commuter services.

He said: "Part of the agreement we as an industry have with Network Rail - who look after the track - is that they concentrate the improvement work at certain times of the year.

"Bank Holiday weekends give Network Rail an opportunity to get things done.

"While people still wanting to travel will face disruption, these works are being done to improve services for passengers."
