Boy band star Lee Ryan has been charged with common assault after allegedly hitting his fiancee, police have confirmed.

The Blue singer denies attacking 26-year-old Samantha Millar, the mother of his son.

The attack is alleged to have happened while the couple were in a car in the West End of London on Wednesday.

Mr Ryan, 27, is due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 27 August.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Lee Ryan, self-employed, of Henley-on-Thames, is due to appear on bail charged with common assault."

Blue have sold more than 15 million records since forming in 2001.

Mr Ryan released a solo album after the group split up in 2004.

They reformed last year and Mr Ryan recently said on Twitter that he was writing material for an upcoming album.

A spokesman for Mr Ryan said: "Lee 100% denies common assault.

"He will be fighting these charges in court".
