In pictures: The 'supermoon'
A selection of pictures from the UK and abroad as the moon makes its closest approach since 1948.
David Murton, chairman of the Orwell Astronomical Society, caught the moon as it rose over Orwell Bridge in Ipswich on Sunday night.
Roy McDonald watched the moonrise on Ivinghoe Beacon, in the Chiltern Hills. He said many people watched the sun set and then left, missing "a stunning spectacle by five minutes".
The spire of St Paul's Cathedral in London was silhouetted onto the full moon on Sunday evening and captured by Zsolt Berend.
