A staff member from Scotland Yard's call handling unit has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

The woman was held at her Essex home by detectives investigating alleged corrupt payments to public officials.

The 33-year-old is being questioned at an east London police station.

She is the 79th person arrested as part of Operation Elveden, an inquiry into allegations that journalists paid public officials for information.

The Met Police operation - which is being supervised by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) - runs alongside Operation Weeting, the Met's phone-hacking inquiry, and Operation Tuleta, a probe into computer hacking and other privacy breaches.

The IPCC has made three arrests of its own as part of Operation Elveden.
