  1. Police officer in hospital after crash

    A police officer has been taken to hospital after the police car she was driving was involved in a crash with two other vehicles.

    It happened at the junction of the M275 and Mile End Road in Portsmouth, at about 10:20 GMT.

    Hampshire Constabulary said the officer, who was responding to an emergency call, was taken to hospital as a precaution. Another driver suffered whiplash injuries.

    The road has since been reopened.

    Police officers in Hampshire were spat at more than 100 times during the coronavirus pandemic, figures have revealed.

    Between March and September this year Hampshire Constabulary recorded 115 cases of officers being spat at.

    The attacks have been described as “vile, disgusting and awful” by the force.

    Officers are now being given the opportunity to self-isolate in hotel rooms.

    The government has pledged to tighten the law as the number of officers spat at nationally is on the rise.
