    A stretch of the A2 near Dover could be widened after nearly four decades of campaigning.

    Dover MP Charlie Elphicke says the Department for Transport has promised funding to "investigate options for improving the A2 around Dover".

    Local people have been calling for the road to be made a dual carriageway since the 1980s.

    Campaigners say dualling the road has become even more important because of plans for a third Thames crossing, and the need for Channel-bound lorries to queue when there are delays.
