Christopher Guest More Jr, 41, appeared in court in the island's capital city Valetta earlier.

He had left the UK after Brian Waters was tortured and beaten to death in front of his two adult children in Knutsford in 2003.

He was arrested on Thursday, the National Crime Agency said.

The court hearing will resume on 14 June and the magistrate said an extradition decision would be made by the end of the month.
