The Welsh Government should look again at backdating the £500 self-isolation payment for those on low incomes, the Welsh Conservatives have said.

In other parts of the UK the payments are backdated to September, but in Wales they will only be backdated to the beginning of November.

Paul Davies, the leader of the Tories in the Senedd, said: “I don’t know why it’s taken so long for them to introduce this payment.

“These payments have actually been introduced in other parts of the UK for many, many weeks now, and I understand that in other parts of the UK they will be backdated to September, and that doesn’t seem to be the case as far as the Welsh Government is concerned.

“I would urge the Welsh Government to look at that and reconsider that, because it’s important that people on low incomes get the support they deserve.”

Health Minister Vaughan Gething said the delay was due to a "practical challenge" getting the system in place.
