Carlisle aircraft had 15 passengers on board

Loganair said the aircraft that had to return to Carlisle airport this morning had 15 passengers and three crew on board.

The passengers had been offered alternative flights from another airport with ground transport.

Engineers were now examining the aircraft, and another plane would be covering services to Southend and Belfast.

Dublin flight returns to Carlisle with engine fault

Loganair flights from Carlisle to Dublin have been cancelled this morning after the first service of the day returned to the Cumbrian airport with a faulty left engine.

It landed with emergency services in attendance soon after 08:00.

Loganair said a replacement aircraft was being flown to Carlisle and later flights to Belfast and Southend would operate as usual.

A spokesman said safety was always the first priority, adding: "We are grateful to the emergency services and Carlisle airport team for their assistance this morning, and apologise to those customers whose journeys have been disrupted as a result of this incident."
