Prince visiting town for festival launch

Prince Charles is visiting Ross-on-Wye today, meeting people at the farmers market before launching the town's Gilpin 2020 Festival.

That event, which will run throughout next year, marks the 250th anniversary of William Gilpin's boat trip down the river, which led to the creation of the UK's first tourist guide.

Mr Gilpin's book had a snappy title: Observations on the River Wye and Several Parts of South Wales, etc Relative Chiefly to Picturesque Beauty: Made in the Summer of the Year 1770.

Its publication is thought to have brought holidaymakers to the area.
