Storm Florence has forced chemical company Elementis to shut down its chromiun plant at Castle Hayne, North Carolina.
Flooding around the plant, which employs 113 people, has halted production.
Elementis told the stock market it hoped production would resume next month and that the impact on its earnings would be "modest".
"The shutdown of the facility was well managed and we anticipate production to restart as conditions in the surrounding area return to normal over the coming weeks," said Peter Waterman, chief execuive of Elementis.
The weather event was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm when it hit the US East Coast in mid-September.
Emergency crews have rescued more than 900 people in North Carolina as floodwaters continue to rise.
