Cornwall Council’s Trading Standards team is warning people not to deal with a gang selling garden furniture from a white hire van bearing the “Enterprise Rental” logo.
The advice follows reports of the gang approaching residents in Feock earlier.
“Typically the gang will claim that they have excess stocks to sell, items left over from new-build properties or some similar excuse. Cold calling to offer garden furniture is a new version but the same risks and warnings apply. In reality there is no idea where the garden furniture has come from, no guarantee as to the quality and even a risk that it may be second-hand. They certainly will not be a bargain. And, of course, the gang will be here today and gone tomorrow so any guarantee they promise will be worthless and there will be no chance of getting a refund if problems are found.”
Cornwall Council is reminding members of the public never to deal with anyone offering goods from the back of a van or from people who knock at the door without an appointment.
