Museum gets permission for ferry extension

Local Democracy Reporting Service

A Christchurch museum has been granted permission to build an extension to house a “significant” passenger ferry.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council has approved plans submitted by the Red House Museum for a new porch on its western wall.

Its historic 1948 salmon punt will be displayed in a purpose-built steel frame once the extension has been built.

The vessel was built in Christchurch and is described as “very significant to the history of the river [Avon]”.

A refurbishment of the listed main building will also take place.
