Archdiocese admits 'failing victims of sex abuse'

The Archdiocese of Birmingham says it accepts it "failed the victims and survivors or abuse" and apologised for "the grievous failings" of the past.

It is responding to a report by the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse which concluded children could have been saved from abuse if the Church had focused less on its reputation.

In a statement, the archdiocese said it would now review the report thoroughly and gave assurances it had "already fundamentally changed its practices and processes to ensure an open and compassionate approach to victims and survivors".
