Remains not thought to be those of Suzy Lamplugh

Human remains found in a Worcestershire village are not thought to be those of Suzy Lamplugh, West Mercia Police have said.

The remains found last Friday were in Kempsey and the force said while they don't believe they belong to the missing estate agent, they will wait on the results of post mortem examinations to be sure.

Ms Lamplugh disappeared from Fulham in 1986. Police recently searched an area near Pershore (ten miles from Kempsey) for her body.

The Pershore search was sparked by new information following publicity about a search last year of a property in Sutton Coldfield which once belonged to the mother of prime suspect John Cannan.

There have been searches for Ms Lamplugh - who was officially declared dead in 1994 - in Worcestershire previously, when police excavated a field near the former Norton Army Barracks in 2000 and 2001 and land near the village of Drakes Broughton in 2010.

The body of Ms Lamplugh, who disappeared from London in 1986, has never been found and her killer never charged.

Metropolitan Police officers announced yesterday that they had begun searching areas of land in Pershore.

Ms Lamplugh's family has been notified and police will remain at the scene until a "thorough search" is complete.

A large police cordon's been seen along the main road, the B4084, on the outskirts of Drakes Broughton in Pershore, and a mechanical digging device was checking sections of the field along with a dog unit.

Estate agent Suzy, 25, from London, disappeared in July 1986 and was declared dead, presumed murdered, in 1994. A body has never been found.

In November, the Metropolitan Police found "no evidence" in a search of a property in Birmingham but today said they received new information following the publicity of that probe.

That's led to the force starting a search of several areas of land in Pershore, adding that the landowner's not connected to their investigation.

They have informed Ms Lamplugh's family.

A family living in a house searched by police over the murder of Suzy Lamplugh say they are still waiting for major repairs to be carried out.

The Metropolitan Police carried out a two-week search in November at the house in Sutton Coldfield - once owned by the mother of suspect John Cannan.

But Phil Carey said his kitchen needed fixing, the garden was a "state" and a shed was collapsing.

The force said it was committed to restoring the property.

During the search for the body of the estate agent who disappeared in west London in 1986, police excavated the garden, dismantled a garage, removed paving and dug a hole in the kitchen floor.
