Urgent plea for protective gear for care workers

Care workers across north Somerset are having to work without personal protective equipment due to supplies "drying up", a council has said.

North Somerset Council is appealing to schools, colleges and businesses to help "bridge the gap" until new stocks reach the South West at the beginning of April.

Councillor Mike Bell said: "We need basic items such as masks, disposable gloves, aprons and hand sanitiser.

"Please, if you have them stored away, and don't have an immediate care-related need, get in touch. You will help save lives."

Councils attempt to keep bin and recycling collections normal

Bins

Councils across the Bristol and Bath area say they're working hard to ensure bin collections continue during the coronavirus outbreak.

Bristol Waste say while it's business as usual for kerbside collections, they've stopped bulk collections and they're constantly reviewing the situation at recycling centres which currently remain open.

BANES has now closed it's recycling centres with garden waste collections cancelled but they say they're working to ensure bin collection continue as normal, though some could be delayed or missed.

South Gloucestershire Council has closed its Sort It recycling centres and from the 30th of March, recycling and food waste collections will be made on the same day as current black bin collections.

And in North Somerset while they're constantly being reviewed, kerbside collections are currently continuing as normal, with their recycling centres at Weston, Portishead and Backwell now closed to the public.
