  4. Flood spending since Storm Desmond touches £80m

More than £80m has been spent on flood defences in Cumbria since Storm Desmond hit the county in 2015, according to the Environment Agency.

The agency says this means about 3,400 homes are already better protected, and 1,800 more will have stronger defences by April.

Stewart Mounsey, the Environment Agency's flood risk manager for Cumbria, says maintenance work such as clearing culverts is also important, and reducing the risk of flooding is always a balance between doing the work quickly and getting it right for local people.
