Wyre & Preston North: Ben Wallace holds seat for Tories

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has held on to his Wyre & Preston North seat, winning with an increased majority.

Mr Wallace beat Labour's Joanne Ainscough by 16,781 votes, 4,535 more votes than the majority at the 2017 election.

John Potter of the Liberal Democrats came third and the Green Party's Ruth Norbury came fourth.

Voter turnout was down by 2.4 percentage points since the last general election.

Nearly 53,000 people, 70.4% of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

Two of the five candidates, Ms Norbury and David Ragozzino (independent) lost their £500 deposits after failing to win 5% of the vote.
