Woking: Conservative hold

Jonathan Lord has been re-elected as the MP for Woking, with a decreased majority.

The Conservative candidate beat Liberal Democrat Will Forster by 9,767 votes, 6,957 votes less than the majority at the 2017 election.

Gerry Mitchell of the Labour Party came third and the Green Party's Ella Walding came fourth.

Voter turnout was down by 1 percentage point since the last general election.

Nearly 54,000 people, 71.5% of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

Two of the five candidates, Ella Walding (Green) and Troy De Leon (UKIP) lost their £500 deposits after failing to win 5% of the vote.
