Man charged after £515,000 diamond theft

A man has been charged after a diamond worth more than half a million pounds was stolen from a house in Westminster.

Detectives from the Met's Flying Squad are investigating a residential burglary which took place in London in December 2017.

Justinas Ivaskivicius, 34, of Fallowfield, Cambridge, has been charged with theft from a person, after a diamond worth £515,000 was stolen from a Westminster home between 12-15 December 2017, officers said.

He has also been charged with two counts of possession of criminal property in relation to a quantity of cash.

He will appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court later via videolink.

Westminster North: Labour hold

Karen Buck has been re-elected as the MP for Westminster North, with a decreased majority.

The Labour candidate beat Conservative Jamie Macfarlane by 10,759 votes, 753 votes less than the majority at the 2017 election.

George Lee of the Liberal Democrats came third and the Green Party's Holly Robinson came fourth.

Voter turnout was down by 2.3 percentage points since the last general election.

Nearly 43,000 people, roughly two-thirds of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

Three of the six candidates, Holly Robinson (Green), Cyrus Parvin (The Brexit Party) and Gabriela Fajardo Palacios (Christian Peoples Alliance) lost their £500 deposits after failing to win 5% of the vote.
