Wallasey: Labour hold

Angela Eagle has been re-elected as the MP for Wallasey, with a decreased majority.

The Labour candidate beat Conservative James Baker by 18,322 votes, 4,998 votes less than the majority at the 2017 election.

Martin York of the Brexit Party came third and Liberal Democrat Vicky Downie came fourth.

Voter turnout was down by 1.6 percentage points since the last general election.

More than 46,000 people, 70.1% of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

Three of the five candidates, Martin York (the Brexit Party), Vicky Downie (Liberal Democrat) and Lily Clough (Green) lost their £500 deposits after failing to win 5% of the vote.
