Boris Johnson says his party has a "powerful new mandate"

Uxbridge & South Ruislip: Conservative hold

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been re-elected as the MP for Uxbridge & South Ruislip, with an increased majority.

The Conservative leader beat Labour's Ali Milani by 7,210 votes, 2,176 more votes than the majority at the 2017 election.

Joanne Humphreys of the Liberal Democrats came third and the Green Party's Mark Keir came fourth.

Voter turnout was up by 1.7 percentage points since the last general election.

More than 48,000 people, 68.5% of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

Nine of the twelve candidates lost their £500 deposits after failing to win 5% of the vote.
