The headteacher of a school in Rochford has sent a letter to parents appealing for children who cycle to school to wear helmets - or risk a cycle ban.
King Edmund School head Jonathan Osborn told BBC Essex the plea was prompted by complaints and safety worries from the local community.
The letter said: "If a student is not wearing a cycle helmet on arrival at school, the school will have no alternative but to stop them riding their bike into school."
Mr Osborn said the school wanted to "do it's bit" to take responsibility for safety and social behaviour.
