Kim Johnson has been elected MP for Liverpool Riverside, meaning that the Labour Party holds the seat with an increased majority.
The new MP beat Conservative Sean Malkeson by 37,043 votes. This was more than Louise Ellman’s 35,947 vote majority in the 2017 general election.
Tom Crone of the Green Party came third and Liberal Democrat Rob McAllister-Bell came fourth.
Voter turnout was up by 2.8 percentage points since the last general election.
Nearly 53,000 people, roughly two-thirds of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.
One of the five candidates, David Leach (The Brexit Party) lost his £500 deposit after failing to win 5% of the vote.

Thomas Grace, 54, was found on Tuesday evening in Beaconsfield, Prescot. He was later pronounced dead in hospital.
