Lewisham East: Labour hold

Janet Daby has been elected MP for Lewisham East, meaning that the Labour Party retains the seat with an increased majority.

The sitting MP beat Conservative Sam Thurgood by 17,008 votes. This was an increase on her 5,629 vote majority over the Lib Dems in her 2018 by-election win.

Ade Fatukasi of the Liberal Democrats came third and the Green Party's Rosamund Adoo-Kissi-Debrah came fourth.

Nearly 45,000 people, roughly two-thirds of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

Six of the nine candidates lost their £500 deposits after failing to win 5% of the vote.
