Hackney South & Shoreditch: Labour hold

Meg Hillier has been re-elected as the MP for Hackney South & Shoreditch, with a decreased majority.

The Labour candidate beat Conservative Mark Beckett by 33,985 votes, 3,946 votes less than the majority at the 2017 election.

Dave Raval of the Liberal Democrats came third and the Green Party's Tyrone Scott came fourth.

Voter turnout was down by 5.7 percentage points since the last general election.

More than 54,000 people, 60.9% of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

Two of the six candidates, Robert Lloyd (the Brexit Party) and Jonty Leff (Workers Revolutionary Party) lost their £500 deposits after failing to win 5% of the vote.
