Abena Oppong-Asare has been elected MP for Erith & Thamesmead, meaning that the Labour Party holds the seat with a significantly decreased majority.
The new MP beat Conservative Joe Robertson by 3,758 votes. This was considerably fewer than Teresa Pearce’s 10,014 vote majority in the 2017 general election.
Tom Bright of the Brexit Party came third and Liberal Democrat Sam Webber came fourth.
Voter turnout was down by 0.5 percentage points since the last general election.
