Blackburn: Labour hold

Kate Hollern has been re-elected as the MP for Blackburn, with a decreased majority.

The Labour candidate beat Conservative Claire Gill by 18,304 votes, 2,064 votes less than the majority at the 2017 election.

Rick Moore of the Brexit Party came third and Liberal Democrat Beth Waller-Slack came fourth.

Voter turnout was down by 4.4 percentage points since the last general election.

Nearly 45,000 people, 62.8% of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

Three of the six candidates, Beth Waller-Slack (Liberal Democrat), Reza Hossain (Green) and Rizwan Shah (independent) lost their £500 deposits after failing to win 5% of the vote.
