'The time's right to move on' - Barnsley FC chairman Watkins

More on the news that Barnsley FC chairman Maurice Watkins' is to leave the Championship club and its board.

The former Manchester United director and lawyer was appointed as chairman of the Tykes in May 2013.

Mr Watkins says: "It was just over four years ago that the owner, Patrick Cryne, asked me to become chairman of the board of directors.

"I've decided the time's right to move on and I wish the club, the players, the fans, and the board every success."

South Yorkshire is now a sea of red after former Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg lost his Sheffield Hallam seat to Labour.

The other 13 South Yorkshire seats remained with Jeremy Corbyn's party, and the successful candidates have been speaking about their wins.

Sarah Champion, who remains MP for Rotherham after increasing her majority by 3.9%, had this to say following her re-election:

The Barnsley East constituency was always going to have a new MP after Michael Dugher announced he wouldn't seek re-election.

As yet, there is no confirmation as to who might stand in his place.

However, I have had it confirmed that it won't be the leader of Barnsley Council Sir Steve Houghton.
