Madame Tussauds Beyonce waxwork 'adjusted' after complaints

Madame Tussauds has adjusted and replaced its controversial waxwork of Beyonce.

The model in New York got members of the Beyhive around the world talking. Some said the waxwork didn't resemble the 35-year-old singer and questioned who commissioned it.

Others accused the museum of whitewashing Beyonce's image.

The New York Times reported that the model vanished from the museum floor.

Madame Tussauds now says they have changed the style and the lighting of the figure and she is back on display.

In a statement to The New York Times the museum said: "We love, respect and enjoy a working relationship with Beyoncé.

"We have adjusted the styling and lighting of her figure and she is on display" at the New York location.

Pictures of the figure which appeared more light-skinned than the singer started doing the rounds on Twitter on Tuesday night.

And while some Beyonce fans loved the addition to Madame Tussauds, others questioned whether the statue was even her.

Twitter users have been listing stars they think the statue resembles more, including American conservative political commentator Tomi Lahren, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan.

The statue has even got some fans comparing it to past Beyonce wax figures made by the museum.

Madame Tussauds appeared to blame the lighting and the effect it has on people's camera lenses for the discrepancy over Beyonce's appearance.

Newsbeat contacted Madame Tussauds for comment on the waxwork: "At Madame Tussauds, our talented team of sculptors take every effort to ensure we accurately colour match all of our wax figures to the celebrity being depicted.

"Lighting within the attraction combined with flash photography may distort and misrepresent the colour of our wax figures which is something our sculptors are unable to account for at the production stage."
