X Factor bosses have refused to confirm whether Louis Walsh will return as a judge for an 11th series.
There are reports the 61-year-old is close to signing a new contract.
The show says no-one else has been confirmed yet. In 2013, the talent show had its lowest live final audience, with judges Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Walsh.
The Irishman has been on the X Factor since it started in 2004.
He is quoted as telling The Sun: "It is all sorted. I am coming back. I just have to sign the contract."
Both Cole and Cowell last appeared on the talent show in 2010.
In March, Cowell told Newsbeat returning to an older format was no bad thing.
He said: "You've got to go backwards sometimes. I always believe with Cheryl you know when something works and there's nothing wrong with going back."
When asked if he knew who would complete the judging panel for the new series, Cowell said: "I want Louis [Walsh] to come back. Cheryl doesn't.
"I can't imagine doing the show without him."
There are rumours that ex-Spice Girl Mel B could take the fourth slot after acting as a stand-in judge last year.
Rita Ora and Kesha are also tipped for the job.
