Filming has started for series eight of Geordie Shore, which will be broadcast later this year, MTV have announced.

All the cast from the previous series are returning apart from Sophie Kasaei, who was kicked off the show last year for making a racist comment.

There will also be a new face this year, as 26-year-old Aaron Chalmers has joined the Geordie Shore house.

He is already friends with cast member Gary Beadle and is described as a "cheeky chappy" and "massive player".

Vicky Pattinson was also removed from the show in the last series, after throwing her stiletto at another girl, Hannah Kelso, in a nightclub.

"I'm over the moon to be coming back into the Geordie Shore house," she said about her return.

"I also want to make it clear that Marnie [who joined the cast in series seven] is not the queen of the house,

"I also want to bring all the house together and unify them - I'm only joking! I want to get in there and cause loads of drama!"

Earlier this year, Pattinson admitted two counts of assault over the bar fight and was ordered to do 180 hours of unpaid work.

She was also ordered to pay £4,000 in compensation to Miss Kelso, £750 compensation to a member of staff whose lip she cut and £1,500 court costs.

The show has come under criticism for portraying Newcastle in a bad light as the cast members are often captured drunk and there are quite a few "scenes of a sexual nature".

Despite this the seventh series of Geordie Shore continued to be a huge success for MTV UK.

It is the television station's highest franchise in UK history with every episode last series averaging an audience of over one million viewers.
